Transform Your Event with Walkabout Entertainers

Walkabout performers are one of the easiest ways to bring an event to life. Instead of staying on a stage, they move through the crowd, so everyone gets a moment with them, not just the people at the front. Elevate supplies walkabout entertainers for festivals, school fairs, corporate events and weddings across mainland UK.

When you're planning an event, you want guests to remember it. Roaming acts give them something to talk about from the minute they arrive: a stilt walker towering over the entrance, a bubble artist filling the air, or a magician turning up beside the buffet.

What Are Walkabout Entertainers?

They're performers who move freely around your venue and interact directly with guests, rather than performing a set show in one spot. The audience doesn't have to come to them. They go to the audience. The acts we supply include:

  • Stilt walkers – tall, colourful characters who are impossible to miss

  • Magicians – close-up tricks performed right in front of small groups

  • Bubble artists – giant bubbles that draw in children and adults alike

  • Balloon modellers – quick, crowd-pleasing creations to take home

  • Face painters – a favourite at family events and school fairs

  • Fire performers – a striking finish for evening events and festivals

  • Hula hoop artists, LED poi and aerial acrobats – movement and spectacle that look great in photos

Why Walkabout Entertainment Works

  • Up-close moments A trick performed for four or five people feels personal in a way a stage show can't. Guests remember the moment a magician pulled their card out of nowhere.

  • Breaking the ice At events where people don't know each other, performers give them something to laugh about together. It gets conversations started without anyone having to try.

  • Atmosphere and photos Bright costumes and eye-catching skills lift the look of any space, and guests will happily share the photos afterwards.

  • Flexibility Acts can be adapted to almost any setting, theme or audience, from a family fun day to a formal evening reception.

Events Perfect for Walkabout Entertainment

  • Corporate events A stilt walker in your company colours at a launch, or a magician working the room at a summer party, keeps guests engaged between the formal parts of the day. If you'd rather your team got hands-on, we also run corporate circus workshops.

  • Weddings Performers can entertain guests during drinks receptions and keep children happy while the photos are being taken.

  • Festivals and carnivals Roaming acts draw crowds, fill quiet spots on site and keep energy high, and fire performers come into their own once it gets dark.

  • School fairs and community events Face painters, balloon modellers and bubble artists are simple crowd-pleasers that help bring people together.

How a Full-Day Booking Works

Stilt walking is hard physical work, so for longer events we don't send one performer and hope they last the day.

We split it.

At the Ravenscourt community event this summer, we supplied two stilt walkers and a roaming LED poi performer. The first stilt walker covered the morning, working sets of around 30 minutes with an hour's rest in between, and finished around lunchtime. The second then took over for the afternoon and carried on until the event closed. That meant there was a fresh, energetic performer on site all day, rather than one tired one by mid-afternoon.

We used the same set-up at Penistone Agricultural Show, with two stilt walkers sharing the day. At both events, we also ran circus skills workshops alongside the walkabout acts, so visitors could watch the performers and then have a go themselves.

Getting the Most from Your Performers

  • Match the theme Choose acts that fit your event. A circus theme suits stilt walkers and jugglers, while an evening festival might call for fire and LED performers.

  • Put them where people gather Entrances, queues, food areas and networking spaces are where performers make the biggest impact.

  • Mix them with other entertainment Walkabout acts sit well alongside stage acts, live music or workshops, so there's always something going on wherever guests are.

The Lasting Impact

What makes roaming performers special is the personal connection. A child's face lighting up as a stilt walker bends down to say hello, or a group of colleagues laughing at a magician's trick, is what people remember long after the event ends.

FAQs

  • What is walkabout entertainment? Costumed performers who roam through your event and interact directly with guests, rather than performing on a fixed stage.

  • What types of acts does Elevate offer? Stilt walkers, magicians, bubble artists, balloon modellers, face painters, fire performers, hula hoop artists, LED poi and aerial acrobats, all from our network of DBS-checked, insured freelance professionals.

  • What kinds of events suit walkabout acts? Corporate events, festivals, weddings, school fairs, product launches and community celebrations – anywhere guests are mingling rather than seated for a formal show.

  • Can performers work indoors and outdoors? Yes. Most acts adapt to both, though some, such as stilt walkers, need enough ceiling height and floor space indoors. We'll confirm what suits your venue when you book.

  • How long do performers work for? Performers work in roaming sets, typically around 30 minutes, with rest breaks in between – especially important for physically demanding acts like stilt walking. For full-day events, we can split the day between two performers so there's always someone fresh on site.

  • Do you provide insurance and DBS checks? Yes. Every performer in our network carries public liability insurance and holds an enhanced DBS check.

  • Do I need to provide anything? Walkabout performers bring everything they need. For a stage show in front of a large audience, you'd need to provide the stage and a PA system.

  • How far in advance should we book? At least 4–6 weeks ahead is best, especially for spring and summer dates, though we can sometimes help at shorter notice.

  • Can the entertainment be themed to match our event? Yes. Costumes and characters can be tailored to your theme, whether that's corporate branding, a particular era or a style of celebration.

  • How much does walkabout entertainment cost? It depends on the type of act, how long you need them and where your event is. Send us your event details for a tailored quote.

  • How do we book? Contact Elevate with your date, venue and event type, and we'll match you with the right performers from our nationwide network.
